Tarnished
Lately I've been working on a new series in which tarnished silver serving vessels function as metaphors for the fractured relationship between humans and the natural world. By inserting these once-precious, now-corroded objects into natural environments, the work inverts traditional hierarchies—posing the question: What if we chose to serve the Earth, rather than extract from it? Sometimes the paintings will have silver leaf as a background invoking purity and renewal. The Earth—represented as both fragile and resilient—has long sustained human life, often without reciprocity. Yet, given the opportunity, it retains the capacity to regenerate. These works invites reflection on our place within this balance and the urgent ethical imperative to serve rather than consume.
